--------------
The test week with the TriageTool at the recycling centre in Deventer has come to an end, and the first insights are highly promising. Together with our partners in the E6 project, we explored how AI can help identify devices with reuse potential more quickly and intelligently.
The pilot revealed that 40% of the 257 registered devices were classified by the TriageTool as potentially reusable. As a result, devices that might otherwise have been sent directly for recycling now have the opportunity to enjoy a second life.
The technology behind the tool also delivered strong results. The AI successfully identified products from a photograph with a 92% success rate, without requiring a barcode or manual data entry. In addition, a faster AI model was introduced during the pilot, reducing the average response time from 15 to 7 seconds.
One particularly interesting insight? Age is not everything. Around 70% of the registered devices were between 3 and 10 years old, yet many of them were still found to be perfectly suitable for reuse.
The pilot also provided valuable lessons for further improving the tool, particularly in the areas of data capture and recording the functional condition of devices.
